Product Description
Thiotaurine, also known as 2-aminoethanethiosulfonic acid, is a potent antioxidant capable of scavenging free radicals generated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)—key organic pollutants that impact human health. It provides protective effects against fibroblast damage induced by PAHs.
Thiotaurine mitigates protein carbonylation, prevents lipid peroxidation on the skin surface, and neutralizes free radicals, demonstrating powerful antioxidant activity. It is commonly used in anti-aging formulations. Beyond its antioxidant role, it also functions in anti-pollution, anti-inflammatory, and anti-glycation applications.
Product Efficacy and Mechanism of Action
Regarding the metabolic pathways and mechanism of action of thiotaurine in the body:
First, it binds to toxic oxygen radicals or heavy metal ions, converting into hypotaurine (a strong antioxidant).
Second, when encountering oxidized glutathione (GSSG) in vivo, it readily reduces it to reduced glutathione (GSH), while itself is reconverted to thiotaurine.
Additionally, hypotaurine is metabolized to release taurine and taurocholic acid, which also exert potent anti-free radical and anti-inflammatory effects.
Through these multiple pathways, it scavenges free radicals, counteracts oxidative cellular damage from environmental stress, inhibits protein carbonylation and inflammatory responses, thereby strengthening the skin barrier function.
