PRODUCT PROFILE
Quaternium-73 is approved by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) as a Quasi-Drug ingredient and is commonly used in Japanese over-the-counter (OTC) products for acne treatment.
Pionin (the common trade name) exhibits potent antimicrobial activity by disrupting bacterial and fungal cell membranes, demonstrating excellent efficacy against Cutibacterium acnes. It effectively inhibits comedones and acne, suppresses melanin formation, and offers high safety despite its strength. It is widely used in acne treatment and brightening/spot-correcting formulations.
Clinical studies indicate:

An exceptionally low MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) of 0.00002% against C. acnes, with a 50% reduction in skin lesions observed after two weeks of use.
