Product Profile

Piroctone Olamine (hereinafter referred to as “OCT”) is a highly effective, non-toxic, and non-irritating anti-dandruff agent. It has been successfully used in the market for over 30 years and is suitable for a wide range of rinse-off and leave-on hair care products such as anti-dandruff shampoos, hair tonics, and conditioners. It works by addressing the root causes of dandruff through antimicrobial action, antioxidant effects, and the decomposition of peroxides, thereby effectively eliminating dandruff and relieving scalp itchiness.

Compared to the commonly used anti-dandruff agent Zinc Pyrithione (ZPT), OCT offers equivalent efficacy with superior solubility and compatibility, preventing issues like precipitation and phase separation in formulations. Furthermore, OCT exhibits low biotoxicity and is environmentally friendly. Following the EU’s classification of ZPT as a CMR 1B substance and its subsequent ban in cosmetics, OCT is positioned as a leading replacement in the global market.

Formulation Guidelines

• pH Range: 3.0 – 9.0

• Solubility: Slightly soluble in water and oils. Soluble in ethanolic solutions and surfactant-containing systems.
